About the Conficker/Downadup/Kido Worm.

Although the media has made a big event out of the Conficker worm, it's important to realise that if you've taken a few basic steps, you are unlikely to be affected by this worm.

If you are regularly checking Windows Update for new Microsoft patches, you may already be protected against the vulnerability that is exploited to install the Conficker worm. If you have not, or are not sure, please ensure that you download the patch for MS08-67.

If you have installed and are actively updating an anti-virus program, such as K7 Total Security, available from K7 Computing, then you are also protected, as most anti-virus is able to detect all current variants of the Conficker worm. If you have not updated your anti-virus recently, or your license has expired we recommend you do update it immediately.

The tool removes the malware files and associated registry entries from an infected machine. It uses a generic & heuristic method to identify the presence of this malware, and is able to detect and clean all current variants. The tool will also warn you if you have not patched your system to remove the vulnerabliitly that allows the worm to spread and infect in the first place.
